Zilker Prep

Hi there! I’m Laura, the face behind Zilker Prep. While I have a technical background, with an undergraduate degree in Physics and a graduate degree in Engineering from Stanford University, I have always been drawn to teaching. Alongside my own research and classes, I always taught. I started as an undergraduate with assisting in a university snow skiing class for fun. In graduate school I taught everything from ethics to high level graduate engineering classes. During that time I received the award of outstanding teaching assistant in my engineering department.

I’ve also taught extensively outside of the university environment. I started two decades ago before graduate school teaching GMAT, MCAT, and SAT at a major test prep company. Since then I’ve taught consistently, including at an elite test prep company at which I received the ’Teacher of the Year’ award. I have traveled all over the world to teach, and have both trained other instructors and developed teaching material and practice tests for multiple companies.

I long ago became too experienced to work for anyone else, but I couldn't imagine walking away and not having the rewards of teaching and the joy of having those ‘light bulb moments’ with students in my life. Thus, I created Zilker Prep as a way to connect directly to my students.
